But that is a quad core machine and the 13 is a dual core and may not be enough, depending on your usage. In the process of trying to figure out the MacBook/13" MBA/13" MBP Retina and am confused. And eventually will replace the Air with something that has a larger screen (Retina would be nice). So currently looking to replace the MBP with the iMac 5K before the laptop goes out of warranty. And the MBP is on a desktop 90% of the time as the Air does the travel. The MBP has had 2 logic board replacements and has had numerous reliability issues (all in Apple Care thankfully). I currently have a loaded 15" MacBook Pro Retina (mid 2012-16GB, 750GB SSD etc) and a 2011 11" MBA. Our experiences may be moving in opposite directions. Or am I missing the forest for the trees: Is the MacBookPro powerful enough to replace my iMac and I should just go for it and load it up? But, heck, if I load it up, the price approaches a 5K iMac and that just doesn't just sensible.Īs you can see I'm suffering from analysis paralysis.

So my question is: 8GB/128GB enough to do any serious work - like PS or FCPX? Since the MacBookPro is such a powerful machine, I don't want to penny pinch it so much that I'm ham stringing its capabilities, yet I don't want to spend a whole lot more, since I'll update the iMac at some point to a 5K Retina, or it's equivalent at that time. Very attractive price, not much more than an Air and a whole lot more powerful. Best Buy has the new MacBook Pro 13" 8GB/128GB on sale for $200 off at $1099. Although it's size and weight are very low which makes it very easy to carry around, I don't like iOS and I want to go back to a laptop with OSX. My problem is a have an iPad Air that I use most of the time for surfing, email, etc. It's still plenty fast and should do me for a couple more years at least.
My main system is a 27" iMac 2011, i7 maxed out with lots of ram and internal/external storage. Looking for some advice on buying the new MacBook Pro 13" (early 2015).
